Young Delhi opener Sanat Sangwan has opened up about his unforgettable experience of playing alongside Virat Kohli in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. Virat Kohli had joined Delhi for their match against Railways in early 2025, and his presence had created huge excitement among the players and fans.
It was a dream come true moment for Sangwan to share the dressing room and build a partnership with his childhood idol. Presently, Sanat Sangwan is playing for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 opener against Bengal in Kalyani. Delhi bowled out for 240 in the first innings, and he managed only 4 runs.
After the stumps on Day 1 in Kalyani, Sangwan recalled that Kohli brought a special energy to the team and hailed him for giving equal importance to every match despite winning so many Test matches for India and winning the Ranji Trophy.

Whether it was batting practice half an hour before the middle session, facing sidearm deliveries in the nets, slip catching, or tempo running, he focused on every aspect of his preparation. Sangwan also recalled the special feeling of batting alongside Kohli. He said the atmosphere was unbelievable, with a huge crowd making a lot of noise when the Indian star walked out to bat.
The Delhi opener added, “I can't describe it in words. It was a very special feeling. You used to have fun with the crowd. There was a lot of crowd. When Virat Kohli came in to bat, there was a lot of noise. I couldn't understand what was going on.”
Sangwan also expressed his desire to play with Kohli again in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, saying it would be a great learning experience for him and the Delhi team. While Kohli remains his biggest idol, the young Delhi batter also admires former Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara.
He signed off by saying, “Yes. We will learn a lot from him. It will be great. My idol is Virat Kohli. But I have seen Kumar Sangakkara's batting in a lot of Test matches. I like his batting.”
