Former international cricketer Farveez Maharoof expressed disappointment and frustration over the Sri Lanka batters' lackluster performance during the three-match T20I series against India. Farveez Maharoof stated that the Sri Lankan batters were unable to capitalize on good starts, describing it as 'unacceptable'.

Sri Lanka, led by Charith Asalanka, suffered a loss to India through a Super Over during the third and final T20I match of the series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, July 30. The home team failed to chase down a target of 138 runs to secure their first win in the recently concluded series.

Sri Lanka were in a strong position at one stage with 110 for 1. The hosts needed 28 runs from 28 balls with two set batters at the crease. However, they lost their last seven wickets for 22 runs during the run chase. However, they managed to tie the match but lost both wickets for two runs in the Super Over.

The Sri Lanka middle-order batters struggled throughout the series against India. The hosts lost nine wickets for just 30 runs during the series opener. They lost seven wickets for 31 runs in the second match. Their batting issues have received criticism from former cricketers, experts, and fans on social media.

Repeated Collapses From Strong Positions - Farveez Maharoof

Farveez Maharoof criticized Sri Lanka's repeated batting collapses from strong positions. He expressed frustration over the team's failure to capitalize on good starts. Maharoof stated that it was difficult to watch and even more challenging to call the play during live broadcasts.

"Repeated collapses from strong positions were a disgrace. Our inability to capitalize on good starts is alarming and unacceptable! Not good enough at the international level as simple as that. Difficult to watch and even more difficult to call the play while on air!" Maharoof wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Washington Sundar Named Player Of The Match In Third T20I Match

Young leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi triggered a collapse by dismissing Kusal Mendis (43 off 41) during the 16th over. Washington Sundar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rinku Singh each took two wickets. Yadav, bowling his first-ever T20I over, played a crucial role in forcing the game into a super over decider.

Washington Sundar bowled the crucial over for India in the recent match. Washington conceded just two runs and took three wickets. Suryakumar Yadav then secured the win with a single boundary on the very first ball of the Super Over. The visiting team clinched a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series.

India scored 137 runs as Shubman Gill scored 39 runs off 37 balls, including three boundaries. Washington Sundar (25 off 18) and Riyan Parag (26 off 18) helped the team to finish strong. Maheesh Theekshana led the Sri Lanka bowling attack with 3/28, and Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets for 29 runs.
