Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is overwhelmed with emotion after reaching his second T20I century in the first match against South Africa. Sanju Samson admitted that he waited more than 10 years for this moment, adding that he wants to stay grounded and avoid overthinking his recent success.

Samson made history by becoming the fourth player to score back-to-back centuries in consecutive T20I innings. Following a 111-run knock against Bangladesh, he continued his form with another century in the first T20I of the four-match series in South Africa at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday, November 18.

I Will Get A Bit Emotional - Sanju Samson

Speaking at the mid-innings, Sanju Samson was asked whether he feels "he is in the form of his life." Samson revealed that he waited a decade for this moment, adding that he is very happy, grateful, and blessed.

"If I think a lot I will get a bit emotional. This thing was not easy for me as I waited for this moment for 10 years, I'm very happy, grateful and blessed. But I would like to keep my feet on the ground, be in the moment and enjoy. Very happy doing it," Samson said.

Samson reached his century in just 47 balls against a strong South African bowling attack. He scored 107 off 50 balls with seven fours and ten sixes. He became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century against South Africa and the first Indian to score hundreds in consecutive T20Is.

I Just Wanted To Let It Flow - Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson also said that he was in a zone and played his knock without overthinking. The batter added that he took time to adjust to extra bounce, especially coming from Indian conditions. Sanju also said that South African bowlers bowled very well during the match.

"I was in a zone, honestly if I speak, it was automatically happening, so I just wanted to let it flow," said Sanju.

"The wicket does play a big role here, it has some extra bounce on it, and coming from India we do take time to understand the wicket. There's a huge wind blowing from one end and their bowlers bowled very well," he added.

I Focus On One Ball At A Time - Sanju Samson

The 29-year-old batter said that he will hit the ball if it's there to be hit. The opener added that he focuses on one ball at a time, which helps him stay in the moment throughout his innings.

"It's a good question actually, it is about having a positive mindset. If the ball is there to be hit, go for it. I focus on one ball at a time throughout the innings and that helps," Sanju concluded.

The Kerala-born cricketer has had an inconsistent international career, with limited opportunities in the past. However, he has got more chances to represent India following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is. It's worth noting that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were rested.
