Leg-spinner KC Cariappa lauds Sanju Samson for his attitude as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021. Following the dropping of former skipper Steve Smith, Samson was put at the helm of the Royals for the 14th edition of the tournament, which now stands suspended.
KC Cariappa, the leg-spinner from Karnataka, was roped in by the Royals for this year’s IPL. He had previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) from 2015 to 2019.
Speaking about Samson, KC Cariappa said the skipper is always calm and composed and maintains confidence in the dressing room. Both have also played together at the under-19 level.
“Samson was really good, he is always calm. When I played U-19, he also played that same season for Kerala. The way he captained the side in IPL 2021, he always ensured the players were brimming with confidence,” KC Cariappa told Sporstkeeda.
KC Cariappa speaks about time shared with Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler
The 27-year old, who has 8 wickets in 11 IPL games, got to share the dressing room with the superstar English duo of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler at RR.
He says that Stokes is a warm man and someone who would often talk to the youngsters and also have food with them; on the other hand, the wicket-keeper opener is normally a less talkative person and remains smiling most of the time. KC Cariappa asserts that the Royals take care of its players very well.
“RR look at every player the same, there are no assumptions. Ben Stokes is such a warm person, he would come and talk to us while we would eat. Buttler would talk the least, he is always smiling, and when you see him you get really positive vibes. Even in the practice sessions, whether you are international or domestic, it didn’t matter, we were all looked after very well,” the leg-spinner commented.
KC Cariappa plays for the Bijapur Bulls in the Karnataka Premier League. The KPL 2021 stands postponed for now owing to the covid-19 situation in the state.
