Indian wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has finally moved to the Chennai Super Kings after all the paperwork was completed.
The Chennai Super Kings can finally look beyond MS Dhoni, as they landed a blockbuster deal that would see a different Indian wicket-keeper batter, Sanju Samson, playing in the yellow jersey.
Being an option with the gloves remains a big part of his selection for the Indian national player. The Kerala player might want some opportunities behind the wickets, as he was even thrown out of the Indian team when Jitesh Sharma surfaced as his replacement.
Sanju Samson joins CSK
As per the latest reports, the Sanju Samson deal between CSK and RR has been finalized. The deal, which was on the record for months, over social media, has been finalized with all the paperwork sorted between the two franchises.
The documents and the final deal agreement have been signed between the owners of the side and the two players from both teams. The document handover is also reported to be completed between the two franchises, and Samson has moved to the Super Kings.

What's the BCCI nod needed for the Samson-Jadeja deal?
The trade deal between Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja is all but confirmed and is being delayed only due to the BCCI's decision yet to be ruled in their favour. The Chennai Super Kings have also agreed to trade CSK all-rounder Sam Curran.
The trade needs to be approved by the BCCI, as it would mark the third completed trade deal ahead of the retention deadline, which is the 15th of November. This will be the third after Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford were traded to MI from LSG and GT, respectively.
Samson will not keep wickets for CSK in IPL 2026
MS Dhoni was undoubtedly very good with the gloves for CSK, sparking a couple of quick stumpings and electrifying catches behind the stumps. Hence, it cannot be stated that MS Dhoni will be taken off the field and will be featured as an impact player.
“MS Dhoni definitely won’t play as an impact player. If he plays, he will feature as a keeper,” explained Badrinath. “The main reason for Dhoni playing is he needs to be out there at the Chepauk. As an impact player, he might come out to bat only in the final two overs. We don’t know if he comes out to bat in that case,” said Subramaniam Badrinath.
“He might not even play the full season, but he will be there as a wicketkeeper, not sure as captain,” said Badrinath. “But he will definitely be as a keeper on the field. He said he will be on the field to play. It will not happen that Dhoni is off the field and leaves someone like Sanju Samson to keep wickets. He will take this decision and speak to Sanju Samson,” he added.
