Sanju Samson scored the first half-century for India in the Asia Cup 2025, reminding Indian fans of Virat Kohli as he played a slow innings for the Men in Blue at No. 3. Some trolled the batter, while some hailed him as the backbone of the Indian innings.

India altered their batting order while playing against Oman in the final group-stage game of the Asia Cup 2025. Opting to bat first, the Indian opening pair could not do a very convincing job; however, several batters played some splendid innings in clusters.

The likes of Axar Patel and Tilak Varma scored handy 20s for the Indian team and contributed to the partnerships alongside Sanju Samson for the Indian team. India finished on the score of 188 in its 20 overs.

Sanju Samson aces the No. 3 batting position for India in the Asia Cup

Shubman Gill was named in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025; however, it led Sanju Samson to sacrifice his opening spot in the Indian playing XI. Samson played stunningly for India in 2024, as he scored three stunning hundreds for the Men in Blue.

Gautam Gambhir never revealed a proper batting position for the Indian wicket-keeper batter. However, Samson was cited to be a No. 3 batsman in the Indian playing XI. Though Suryakumar Yadav played for India at No. 3 in the previous two matches, this was the first time a glimpse of Samson was seen in the top order.

Samson scored a half-century off 41 balls, drawing comparisons with the former Indian great Virat Kohli. Kohli established himself as a No. 3 batter and served as a dominant force in the Indian T20I top order over the years.

This was the slowest half-century ever for Sanju in his T20I career, but it came under tough conditions, when Indian batters kept losing wickets at regular intervals from the other end.

Abhishek Sharma scores three 30s in a row but misses out on any milestone innings

The Indian opener Abhishek Sharma outclassed several greats of the game at the top of the Indian batting order. Abhishek is an explosive opener, as he has made up his reputation for giving India a quickfire start in the shortest format of the game.

In every game of the Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek has scored 30 and has batted with a strike rate of around 200. In this game against Oman as well, Abhishek Sharma scored 38 off just 15 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes. However, despite doing well, he has failed to reach a milestone in the tournament so far.
