Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has opened up about his dream come true moment and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his fans and supporters for their love and support throughout his journey so far.

Samson’s international cricket journey, spanning nearly a decade, has seen just 46 appearances across formats for Team India, proving that he has had a rollercoaster ride. The Kerala star has been hailed as one of the most promising talents in India, but the irregular opportunities and inconsistent performances didn’t help him to make big as a player at the highest level.

Sanju Samson reflects on T20 World Cup 2024 glory and fan support amidst struggles

Despite his evident talent, the right-handed batter has struggled to make the most of the opportunities provided to him by the Indian cricket team in white-ball cricket. Well, Samson’s career highlight came with his inclusion in the India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Unfortunately, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper did not get the opportunity to feature in any of the matches during India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Nonetheless, being part of such a major event remains a cherished achievement for him, as Samson described being part of the T20 World Cup-winning team as a dream come true moment for him.

Looking ahead, Samson’s future in international cricket remains uncertain. With the next T20 World Cup in 2026 on the horizon in India and Sri Lanka, questions linger about his ability to secure and maintain a place in the team, especially given his recent performances.

In the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Sanju Samson missed the opportunity to make an impact badly, as he was dismissed for ducks in three out of five innings. At 29, he still has time to turn his career around, but the pressure to perform and cement his place in the Indian team is mounting.

My wish was to play in my last ODI World Cup: Sanju Samson

Despite being out of form and uncertain about when he will get a chance to play for India, Sanju Samson revealed that his dream was to be part of the ODI World Cup in 2019 in England after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 medal.

Sanju Samson was quoted as saying by ZEE: “The last 3-4 months have been the best of my career. Being part of the World Cup team is like a dream come true—something I desired 3-4 years ago. My wish was to play in my last ODI World Cup. However, it was only after joining the team and winning the Twenty20 World Cup that I realized it wasn't an easy task. But in the last series against Sri Lanka, I didn't perform as expected.”

I have incredible support of fans: Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson enjoys a large and dedicated fan base, and whenever he is dropped from the team, they express their disappointment on social media and call for his inclusion in the team. And the wicketkeeper-batter felt lucky to have such supporters, and it fuels his motivation and drives him to work harder toward achieving his goals.

He signed off by saying, “The support I've received from people across the country, as well as from Malayalis all the way from New Zealand to the West Indies, is amazing. Other team members often say that wherever I go, I have incredible support. That's why they feel disappointed when I don't make it into the team or when I get out for a duck. I have the maturity to understand that.”
