Rajasthan Royals’ newly-appointed captain, Sanju Samson speaks about the chats he has had with Ben Stokes while they bat together in the middle. As the Kerala batsman is being put at the helm of the Royals, the position comes with several duties, one of which is fan engagement.
In a video uploaded by the franchise on social media, Sanju Samson answered several queries by the fans. In one of the questions, he was asked what cricketers talk about after they hit a boundary.
“It can be anything. It depends on the partner you are batting with. So, if I am batting with Stokesy (Ben Stokes), I don’t think we talk a lot of sense there. We just smile about it and react like it was a great shot and then decide what to do next ball,” replied Sanju Samson.
I am very much excited to do this role for my team: Sanju Samson
Ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, Steve Smith was released and Sanju Samson was named as the new leader of the side. The 26-year-old was recently dropped from India’s T20I side as Rishabh Pant made his comeback; now he will be having extra pressure of leading the side other than his own personal form with the bat which has been inconsistent over the years.
However, the right-hander is excited about this new position and is eager to step on the field. Rajasthan Royals, who finished at the bottom of the table last season, will begin their campaign against Punjab Kings on April 12th in Mumbai.
“I am very much excited to do this role for my team. I started being a Royal when I was 18 and now I am 26, the team has given me this role, I am really excited and looking forward to it,” he added.
