Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are two of the most exciting talents in world cricket currently. And, they have been for some time now.
The duo has played some of the most astounding knocks in the Indian Premier League over the years but none beats their epic annihilation of Gujarat Lions during a 2017 IPL encounter when they were playing for the same franchise- Delhi Capitals [Daredevils].
Needing 209 to win, Delhi Capitals made a mockery of the target and achieved the same in just 17.3 overs thanks to a brutal onslaught from Rishabh Pant [97 off 43 balls] and Sanju Samson [61 off 31 balls].
The duo smashed as many as 143 runs in just 10.3 overs before Samson was eventually dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.
Samson, who had hit Jadeja for consecutive sixes in the 12th over, perished in an attempt to do an encore in the following over bowled by the left-arm spinner.
Ahead of his sides’ clash against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals’, Sanju Samson recalled how adhering to his former teammate’s advice of keep hitting sixes led to his undoing during that 2017 encounter.
“Rishabh wanted me to keep going. I hit two balls, two sixes, and I was trying to take a single. And, he told me, ‘No I think you should look for another six’. I tried doing that and got out next ball, actually!” Sanju Samson told ESPNCricinfo.
When asked about whether Rishabh Pant’s fearless approach is his biggest strength, Samson responded in the affirmative, stating that the Delhi cricketer’s success is the biggest example for everyone that one should always stick to their own way of playing.
” Everyone has their own way of doing things. If you listen to people and if you try to change things, that’s when a lot of doubts or a lot of questions keep on coming to you. It’s always about sticking to your true self. I am very happy to see Rishabh succeed and the only way he is succeeding is because he is sticking to his own way of playing. That’s the biggest example for almost everyone that you need to stick to your own way of playing,” added Sanju Samson.
