Shadab Khan, who is currently Pakistan’s vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is, has played alongside many outstanding players.
The 23-year-old compared and contrasted Sarfaraz Ahmed and Babar Azam, two captains he played for, in a Twitter Spaces session. Shadab was part of the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning team which Pakistan won under Sarfaraz Ahmed after beating arch-rivals India by a massive margin. That remains Pakistan’s biggest achievement in multi-team events in the last 5 years.
Babar Azam Does Not Show His Emotions On The Field: Shadab Khan
Shadab described the main distinction between Babar and Sarfaraj as follows:
“Sarfaraz Ahmed was an active captain in the field whereas Babar Azam does not depict his emotions on the field much. Being a captain of your country is difficult. Babar Azam used to take pressure early on but he’s well settled as a captain now.”
Shadab also stated that Babar, the current captain, has lost his smile since assuming the position. After Pakistan’s performance at the 2019 Cricket World Cup, when they were unable to go past the quarterfinals due to a lower net run rate than New Zealand, Sarfaraz was relieved of his captaincy.
They had a successful campaign, winning five of their nine games while losing three and one ending in a no-result.
Before Pakistan’s October 2019 tour of Australia, Ahmed was fired from his position, and Azhar Ali and Babar were selected as the captains of the Test and T20I teams, respectively. On November 10, 2020, Babar also assumed control of the Test captaincy.
Following Pakistan’s triumph over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle recently, former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad recently made a significant revelation regarding Babar. He stated that Babar Azam has matured now and the squad should have him as captain till he leaves the game.
