Sarfaraz Khan was overlooked for India’s upcoming five-match Test series, but the Mumbai dynamite continues to let his bat do all the talking in England. Despite not being part of India’s Test squad, Sarfaraz Khan has been making sure to catch the eye of chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir on the England tour with India A.

On Saturday, June 14, the 27-year-old batter lit up the Kent County Cricket Ground with a jaw-dropping 76-ball century in the high-intensity intra-squad clash between India A and Team India. However, Gautam Gambhir was absent as the head coach headed home due to an emergency.

But Ajit Agarkar and VVS Laxman, who is the head of the National Cricket Academy, were present at the intra-squad match in Beckenham. The game is being played behind closed doors, so neither the media nor the fans are allowed to watch the action at the Kent County Cricket Ground.

In response to India’s massive total of 459, Sarfaraz blazed a stunning knock of 101 runs off 76 balls, hammering 15 boundaries and two sixes. The explosive right-handed batter’s electric hundred turned heads, especially with senior pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna in the attack during the intra-squad match.

Jasprit Bumrah, warming up for the Test series, failed to take a single wicket and gave away 36 runs in 7 overs. However, Mohammed Siraj grabbed two wickets but was hammered for 86 runs, while Arshdeep Singh, who was handed a maiden Test call-up, also remained wicketless.

Well, Sarfaraz stole the show with his batting brilliance, but his knock was eventually ended as he was retired out to give others a chance. India A ended the day at 299/6 with Ishan Kishan (45*) and Shardul Thakur (19*) resuming the play of Day 3 in Beckenham.

The young batter responded to his exclusion from the main India squad in the best way possible, as his brilliant hundred by scoring a solid 92 runs in the first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions in Canterbury.

Notably, Sarfaraz has played six Test matches for India so far, scoring 371 runs with an average of 37.10. His best moment came when he smashed a brilliant 150 against New Zealand in Bengaluru. But things quickly changed as he failed in the next two matches and hasn’t played for India since.

Sarfaraz Khan ignored despite his red-hot form and improved fitness

He didn’t get a chance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia as well, but he didn’t give up. The Mumbai batter worked harder than ever, lost 10 kilos, and spent long hours in the nets, practicing against swing bowling to prepare for England.

But yet again, he was ignored for the India selection. Meanwhile, earlier in the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad yet again failed to deliver with the bat, falling for a duck in his very first outing in England after warming the bench in the two unofficial tests against England Lions.

However, Abhimanyu Easwaran (39) and Sai Sudharsan (38), both part of the Test squad, had decent starts but couldn’t convert. On the opening day, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul both smashed fifties ahead of the first Test against England at Headingley from June 20.
