Young batter Sarfaraz Khan was not selected for India’s squad against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, the right-handed batter is still in the news for his consistent performances for Mumbai in the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.
Sarfaraz lost about 17 kg in just over two months, drawing widespread attention on social media. He started the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament with an unbeaten 138 against TNCA XI on August 18, including ten fours and six sixes at the Gojan College ground, and carried his good form into the following match.
Sarfaraz Khan Smashes Century for Mumbai on Challenging Chennai Track
Sarfaraz Khan was a lone warrior for Mumbai on a difficult batting track at the MRF Pachaiyappas ground in Chennai on August 26. The right-handed batter walked at No.5 when his team was in trouble at 84 for 4. He counter-attacked against opposition bowlers from ball 1 to take control of the innings.
Khan reached the triple-digit mark in only 99 deliveries. He brought it up with a towering six off Ishant Bharadwaj. Sarfaraz raised his helmet to acknowledge the dressing room and his partner at the other end.
The knock ended at 111 from 112 balls, including nine boundaries and five sixes. No other Mumbai batter in the top order managed to score a half-century. Parth Vats finally dismissed Khan in the innings.
Sarfaraz Khan Pushes Case for Test Recall with Consecutive Centuries
Sarfaraz Khan battled through cramps to complete his century against Haryana. He scored back-to-back hundreds with his aggressive mindset, refusing to let bowlers dictate terms.
Sarfaraz's form has pushed his case for a Test recall, especially with India set for a busy home season beginning against the West Indies on October 2. Sarfaraz is now in contention for the No.3 spot and a middle-order role, with Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan failing to make the most of their chances.
The 27-year-old batter sent a signal to chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir, who must decide whether his form will be rewarded with a place in India’s red-ball squad.
Sarfaraz Khan Has Had Mixed Outings in His International Career
Sarfaraz Khan has had mixed outings in his international career so far. He was part of India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which India lost 1-3, but he did not feature in a single match during the series.
He scored 150 runs against New Zealand in Bengaluru but managed only 21 runs across the next four innings on spin-friendly tracks in Pune and Mumbai.
However, Sarfaraz showcased his talent in the India A setup, scoring 92 in an unofficial Test against England Lions. He has scored 371 runs in 11 Tests at an average of 37.10, including one century and three fifties.
Even after his impressive India A performance, the selectors did not recall him for the main squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
