Team India batter Sarfaraz Khan recently shared his dedication to fitness during the off-season and added that he used the break as an opportunity for improvement rather than rest. Sarfaraz Khan highlighted that he started his days with long-distance running at 4:30 AM to improve his fitness standards.
In modern cricket, maintaining peak fitness is crucial to play across all formats given the demanding schedule. Sarfaraz Khan understands the importance of being in top shape to handle the challenges of international cricket. The young middle-order batter is relatively new to international cricket.
The 26-year-old batter made his debut for India during the home Test series against England earlier this year. He wasn’t part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, which led to an extended off-season. Khan is now part of the Mumbai squad for the Buchi Babu tournament that began on Thursday, August 15.
There Is Nothing Called Off-Season For Me - Sarfaraz Khan
In an interview with the Indian Express, Sarfaraz Khan revealed his off-season routine. He said that he achieved a 5 km run in 30-31 minutes. Khan added that his routine included gym workouts and fielding drills in the morning, with batting practice scheduled for the evening.
"There is nothing called off-season for me. I would wake up by 4.15 am and by 4.30 am, I will start the day with long-distance running. It was very helpful to improve my fitness because, by the end of the month, I was able to run 5 km in 30-31 minutes," Sarfaraz said.
"It was my priority and we (his father Naushad and him) put a plan in place. So once I’m done with my running, I would hit the gym. So the first half of the day was allotted for fitness and fielding drills. The batting part would begin in the evening," he added.
My Father And I Had A Dream - Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz said that he wants to establish himself as a regular Test player after achieving his dream of playing for India. The middle-order batter emphasized that he wants to continue working hard to extend his career, adding that this is not the time to rest.
“My father and I had a dream. It was to play for India and I was able to achieve it against England. But it shouldn’t be the end. Now, I’ve to prolong that dream as long as I can, and for that, I have to do a lot of hard work. This isn’t the time to rest. If anything, I’ve to work harder,” Sarfaraz further stated.
