Sarfaraz Khan made sure his message reached every IPL team, and he did it in the most eye-catching way possible on Tuesday, December 16. Sarfaraz Khan played a stunning knock for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, and his celebration took social media by storm.
Sarfaraz played a breathtaking innings against Rajasthan in a Group B match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, as he raced to a half-century in just 15 balls in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 clash on Tuesday.

The Indian batter attacked from the very start, showing his full hitting range and sending the ball to all parts of the ground. Sarfaraz played a remarkable knock of 73 runs off 22 balls laced with six boundaries and seven sixes, against Rajasthan in the ongoing SMAT 2025 match in Pune.

The timing of the knock made it even more striking, as it came barely an hour before the IPL 2026 Auction began in Abu Dhabi. After reaching his fifties, Sarfaraz dropped to the ground and did push-ups right on the field.
Now, the Mumbai batter’s bold and confident celebration instantly went viral and was widely seen as a clear signal to IPL franchises. Notably, Sarfaraz is part of the first set of capped batters at the IPL 2026 Auction and set a base price of ₹75 lakh.

Sarfaraz Khan sets Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 on Fire
He has been in stunning form with the bat this season. Earlier this month, Sarfaraz had already announced his return to T20 cricket in style. Playing his first T20 match in more than two years, he smashed his maiden century in the format in the SMAT 2025.
His unbeaten hundred came off just 47 balls and included eight fours and seven sixes. That knock powered Mumbai to a dominant 98-run win over Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 group match. Sarfaraz has smashed 329 runs from seven games at an incredible strike rate of 203.08 in the ongoing T20 tournament.

Across his T20 career so far, Sarfaraz has featured in 103 matches and batted in 81 innings. In those games, the 28-year-old has gone past 1,500 runs at a healthy strike rate of over 135. In 50 IPL matches, he has scored 585 runs at an average of 22.50.

Speaking about the Super League match, Rajasthan posted 216/4 on the board in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Mumbai, thanks to M Choudhary and Deepka Hooda’s fifties. Ramnivas Golada also contributed 48 runs against Mumbai.
Later, Mumbai chased down the target with 11 balls to spare as they won the SMAT 2025 Super League game by three wickets against Rajasthan in Pune. Sarfaraz was the standout batter for Mumbai, while Ajinkya Rahane also played a splendid knock of 72 unbeaten runs off just 41 balls.
Manav Suthar led the Rajasthan attack with a three-wicket haul, while Kukna Ajay Singh and Ashok Sharma each scalped two wickets against Mumbai.
