Team India middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan missed Mumbai’s recent match against Maharashtra during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 due to pain in his quadriceps. The issue raised concerns for the Mumbai team because the right-handed batter had suffered a similar quadriceps injury last year.

Sarfaraz smashed a century off just 57 deliveries in his last match for Mumbai. He went on to score 157 runs from 75 balls after walking in at a tricky moment against Goa and helped the team secure a comfortable victory. The right-handed batter last played for the India national cricket team in November 2024.

Sarfaraz Khan Misses Mumbai vs Maharashtra Clash Due to Quadriceps Issue

According to Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta, Sarfaraz Khan missed Mumbai’s recent Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Maharashtra due to pain in his quadriceps. He also revealed that Shardul Thakur was dealing with discomfort, and both players underwent MRI scans to assess their fitness.

Shardul Thakur Faces Possible Vijay Hazare Trophy Exit Due to Injury

Shardul Thakur may miss the rest of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy after suffering an injury while playing for Mumbai against Maharashtra in Jaipur. The injury happened during the group match on Saturday, January 3.

Thakur had to leave the field after bowling 6.5 overs and was seen limping as he walked off. He later came out to bat but could score only four runs from five balls. Mumbai went on to lose the match by 128 runs.

After the game, Thakur underwent MRI scans to check the seriousness of the injury. The scan results will decide whether he can play again in the tournament.

The possible injury is a big blow for Mumbai. Thakur had started the season well and picked up 11 wickets in his first four matches. The discomfort affected his bowling against Maharashtra, and he finished the match without taking a wicket.

Mumbai Await Scan Results on Shardul Thakur and Sarfaraz Khan Ahead of the Knockout Stage

Mumbai face an anxious wait as they await scan results on Shardul Thakur and Sarfaraz Khan, whose absence could hurt their campaign at a crucial stage. With the knockout rounds approaching, the team hopes the injuries turn out to be precautionary rather than season-ending.

Mumbai have enjoyed a strong run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Under Thakur’s leadership, they have won four of their five matches and sit second in the Elite Group C standings.

Mumbai are set to play Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur on January 6, but Sarfaraz and Thakur’s availability for the match remains unclear. If Thakur is ruled out for the rest of the season, the team will also need to decide who will take over the captaincy for the remaining fixtures.
