Suryakumar Yadav couldn't hold back the pride he felt after Sarfaraz Khan smashed his maiden international hundred in the ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (October 19).

Suryakumar Yadav lauds Sarfaraz Khan’s incredible journey after stunning 150 against New Zealand
After his remarkable innings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Suryakumar Yadav hailed Sarfaraz’s rise in Indian cricket and his journey fueled by sheer grit, determination, and an unrelenting hunger for runs.
He admitted that the magic of Sarfaraz's batting, featuring unconventional strokes and an unorthodox approach, often raised a few eyebrows, but what matters is how he makes runs; he knows how to pile on the runs, and it matters the most.
Suryakumar Yadav wrote in his column for The Indian Express: “Sarfaraz Khan’s shots might look awkward sometimes, or one can argue that he scores more square of the wicket, as he did in this Bengaluru Test, but for me and him, what matters is getting runs. Be it anyhow, anywhere. Run toh run hota hai. And Sarfaraz knows how to get them.”
Suryakumar revealed that he has known Sarfaraz Khan for more than 15 years, and he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai under his captaincy. The Indian captain claimed that the right-handed batter has revived his game, especially in the past three years. He added that Sarfaraz is currently at this stage because of his grit and determination.
We all saw his hundred in the dressing room: Suryakumar Yadav
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Mumbai’s dressing room erupted with joy when Sarfaraz reached his century, as he shared the story of that exact moment, his father Naushad Khan’s reaction to his son’s maiden Test ton, and his relationship with the cricketer and his family.
The 34-year-old revealed: “Today the Ranji game started at 9:30 am, and only our manager has phone access. Just 15-20 minutes in, the manager told us that he was batting on 93. I thought he was joking, so we took the phone to check. In 20 minutes, he had gone from 70 to 93 runs! We all saw his hundred in the dressing room.
It was a different feeling for me because there is a connection with him and his family. I have seen his father fight, pushing hard every day. Musheer (Sarfaraz’s younger brother) had come today. I asked him, What was Tiger’s (Naushad, Sarfaraz’s father) reaction? He replied, ‘He was crying.' I have seen Sarfaraz maidaan ke dhool-matti khaate (toil hard in the dust and mud of maidens).”
We share a love wala relationship: Suryakumar Yadav
