Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam suffered an injury scare during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 match against Lahore Qalandars. Fast bowler Ubaid Shah delivered a searing bouncer that struck the former Pakistani skipper directly on the helmet at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, April 11.
Lahore Qalandars won the toss and elected to field first against Peshawar Zalmi. Defending champions Lahore Qalandars welcomed opening batter Fakhar Zaman back into their playing squad after serving a two-match ban recently. Peshawar are the only unbeaten side during the ongoing Pakistan Super League.

The incident took place on the first ball of the sixth over. Ubaid Shah bowled a short delivery at 125.7 km/h as Babar Azam stepped out attempting an aggressive pull shot.
The right-handed batter completely missed the ball. It struck his shoulder before hitting his neck and the lower grill of his helmet. The team's physiotherapist immediately rushed onto the field to assess Azam. The skipper underwent a concussion test and then resumed batting.

Mohammad Haris was dismissed early once again, putting pressure on the batting side. Babar and Kusal Mendis then rebuilt the innings on a surface that offered more assistance to bowlers than recent games. Mendis attacked from the start, while Babar focused on steady accumulation.
The pair built a valuable 109-run partnership for the second wicket. Babar Azam scored 43 runs, anchoring the innings and rotating strike effectively. The stand ended when Usama Mir delivered a tossed-up googly, tempting Babar into a mistimed shot that was caught by Abdullah Shafique at long-on.
This partnership is among the highest for Peshawar Zalmi against Lahore Qalandars in the PSL. The top stand remains 136 between Babar and Saim Ayub in 2024, followed by 116 between Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik in 2020.
The Conditions Are Slightly Different I Feel - Babar Azam
The Peshwar Zalmi skipper said that the team’s preparation remained unchanged. He mentioned that the squad used the break to train under the sun, which helped them adapt to daytime conditions. Babar noted that the conditions feel slightly different despite the pitch being the same as earlier matches.
"(Preparation for a day game) The preparation stays the same. The break that we got earlier, we practiced a lot under the sun," Babar stated.
"The conditions are slightly different I feel, though the pitch is the same that we played on a couple of nights ago. Hopefully we play well."
"(On their strong spin attack) The spinners always dominate here. Iftikhar's experience with the ball helps. We are blessed with a combination that is helping us out a lot in these conditions."
Peshawar Zalmi are at the second position on the points table. They have secured three victories from four matches along with one abandoned game. Lahore Qalandars are at sixth place after winning two of their four matches.
