Scotland Cricket has announced a 17-member squad for the first-ever bilateral men's T20I series against Australia, scheduled to be played in Edinburgh next month.

Batting all-rounder Richie Berrington will lead the Scotland national team in the three-match T20I series at home, beginning on September 4.

Scotland and Australia have faced each other once in T20 internationals. The two teams met during the T20 World Cup 2024 in Gros Islet in June.

Scotland scored 180 runs in their final group match of the World Cup. Australia won the match by five wickets with contributions from Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis.

Charlie Cassell Named In Scotland Squad For Australia T20Is

All 15 players from the T20 World Cup squad are for the series, and Charlie Cassell and Jasper Davidson have been called up from the national cricket team.

All three matches of the T20I series between Scotland and Australia will be played at The Grange in Edinburgh. The matches are scheduled for September 4, 6, and 7.

Fast bowler Charlie Cassell has been included in Scotland's squad for the T20 series against Australia. Cassell broke the record for the best figures on a men’s ODI debut last month with a 7-21 against Oman.

The fast bowler was born in Aberdeen in northeast Scotland and moved to Perth with his family in 2005.

Hugely Excited - Scotland head coach Doug Watson

Scotland head coach Doug Watson is hugely excited for the upcoming T20 series against Australia.

Watson said that it’s a wonderful opportunity to play one of the best teams in the world. He added that his team will be eager to perform well and challenge the Australians.

"I’m hugely excited. It’s a wonderful opportunity to play one of the best teams in the world, and I’m pretty sure that our players won’t need any motivation for this series. It’s a great opportunity for them to share the field with world-class players. They’re wanting to put in some huge performances and compete, and really push this Australia team," Watson said, as quoted by the official website.

Watson highlighted that winning the first game of the T20 series against Australia would boost the team’s chances for the remaining games. He stated that playing against a top team in front of a large crowd will be a valuable experience for players.

"After coming into the squad at CWCL2 and doing so well, it’ll be great for Jasper and Charlie to have the experience of what it’s like playing against the best, in front of a fairly large crowd. The goal for us is to win this series. The first game is really important – if we can win that, it’ll set up the next two matches. The whole week will be brilliant for the squad, staff, supporters, and all of the nation."
