Scott Edwards has concluded his captaincy stint after leading the Netherlands National Cricket Team in 56 ODIs. Edwards, who began his career as the skipper in 2022 through a series against England, stepped down from the role at the conclusion of the leg of CWC League 2 games on Friday.
Bas de Leede, a pace-bowling all-rounder and arguably the best cricketer in the Netherlands' current team, has been named as the successor to Scott Edwards. Leede will begin his journey as the national side's leader from the remainder of the CWC League 2.

Scott Edwards announced his decision through a video
Through an official video shared by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association, Scott Edwards announced his retirement, thanking his teammates and the support staff for helping him throughout the journey.
The keeper-batter will continue to contribute as a regular player and is hopeful of adding more value without the onus of the team's leadership responsibilities.
Scott Edwards discussed his future with the former head coach of the Netherlands National Cricket Team
After discussing his thoughts with the former head coach Ryan Cook, who stepped down from the position in June this year, Edwards decided to hand over the responsibility.
"Apologies for sort of springing this one on you guys. I'm actually stepping down from the captaincy from here. I think, yeah, it's sort of something Cookie (Ryan Cook) and I have been speaking about, and I've sort of been, yeah, speaking to a few different people about it, and this is sort of the time that feels right for me, I think," Edwards said in the video message.
"I feel like I've got so much more to offer as a player and obviously that's my goal sort of going forward with all you boys. I think this is such a special group. And yeah, I think the world's our oyster and I'm really looking forward to what's to come", he added.
Edwards marked his debut as the Netherlands men's cricket team captain in 2022 when England toured the Netherlands for an ODI series. With Scott Edwards as the leader of the team, the Orange Army produced multiple unpredictable results in the ICC events.
At the 2023 ODI World Cup, Edwards and his boys took everyone by surprise when they claimed a win over South Africa in Dharamshala. In the same tournament, they outplayed Bangladesh as well. In 56 matches Scott Edwards led, the Netherlands won 24 and lost 29.
In the T20 Internationals too, the Dutchman had some incredible games when he led the team. He captained 50 of the 86 games he has played for the national side. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, under the leadership of Scott Edwards, the Netherlands knocked out South Africa from the tournament and emerged victorious over Zimbabwe.
Bas de Leede will now lead the Netherlands cricket team
26-year-old fast-bowling allrounder Bas de Leede has been named as the new captain of the team, who is super excited to get the prestigious position. He believes the team could grow significantly, as the stage is already there.
"It doesn't just set the team up for success, but it sets individuals up for success. And I think we should all be very thankful for that, for a guy to be that selfless to put others into the best space to perform. It's pretty f*****g special. I'm so excited to see what's more to come for you as a player. I think you're a very special player and I can't wait to lead you on the field," Bas de Leede stated.
