Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowler Suyash Sharma has revealed that he endured physical struggles before being sent to London for proper diagnosis and treatment. The leg-spinner said that he played cricket for nearly two years while managing pain through injections, unaware of the exact issue.
Suyash joined Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹2.60 crore after leaving Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has made an impact this IPL season despite not taking as many wickets. The 21-year-old spinner has showcased his skill by consistently bowling accurately and maintaining pressure in crucial moments.
I Used to Play by Taking Injections - Suyash Sharma
Speaking on RCB Bold Diaries, Suyash Sharma revealed that he had been playing through the pain by taking injections until 2023. Suyash stated that he discovered he had three hernias when RCB sent him to London for surgery.
"I was very happy, absolutely happy. I knew that with RCB, I had a good chance. I had been practicing — this had been going on for two years. Until two years ago, I used to play by taking injections," Suyash said.
"We didn't know what was going on in India as we didn't know what the issue was. Then it became a problem. RCB sent me to London for my surgery. And there I had James Pipey. He and his family treated me like their own family. I had three hernias," he added.
I Was Told That I Should Play After Three or Four Matches - Suyash Sharma
Suyash Sharma admitted that he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to start the IPL 2025 season due to his recovery from surgery. He mentioned that he was told he would need to sit out the first few matches. However, he was fit enough to play in RCB’s second game of the season.
"I'm telling the truth — I didn't even expect to play the first match. I was told that I should play after three or four matches because my surgery was quite major."
"But James took such good care of me, better than anyone else could. I'm really thankful that I came to this franchise — I became completely fit. Otherwise, I have been dealing with this issue for the past two years. I had gotten used to playing in pain," Suyash added.
Suyash Sharma's Standout Contributions for RCB in IPL 2025
