Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi came under heavy social media attention after an emotional outburst during the ongoing PSL. The fast bowler lost his temper and smashed his bat on his way back to the dugout following a frustrating dismissal during the recent match against the Quetta Gladiators.
The defending champions suffered a six-wicket defeat to Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Friday, April 17. Shaheen Afridi's side recorded their third straight loss in the tournament. They managed to score 134 runs, and Quetta Gladiators chased down the target with 22 balls to spare.
Shaheen Afridi Falls for Golden Duck, Loses Temper
The defending champions were already struggling at 60 for five wickets when Shaheen Afridi promoted himself up the batting order in an attempt to stabilize the innings. However, his plan backfired as he endured a nightmare outing at the crease.
The captain went for a slog sweep against spinner Usman Tariq on the very first delivery he faced. The ball took a leading edge and ballooned straight toward Saud Shakeel, who completed a comfortable catch, dismissing him for a golden duck and leaving his side in even deeper trouble.
Following the dismissal, Shaheen completely lost his composure. While walking back, the frustrated skipper smashed his bat against the boundary rope and side screen tires. Visuals later showed him continuing the outburst near the dressing room stairs, repeatedly striking his bat.

We Are Struggling Right Now - Shaheen Afridi
During the post-match presentation, Shaheen Afridi admitted that the team’s batting has been poor in recent matches. However, the captain also said that the bowling unit must take responsibility and improve their performance, especially during the middle overs.
"It is true that we are struggling right now, particularly with the bat in these Karachi conditions, but we are by no means out of the tournament," Afridi stated at the post-match presentation.
"Bowlers need to step up in the middle overs and take wickets," he added.
The defending champions are under heavy pressure, sitting seventh with just four points from six matches. They need an immediate turnaround and must win all four remaining games to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team will play their next clash against the winless Rawalpindi side.
Lahore Qalandars’ Playoff Hopes in Danger
Peshawar Zalmi are at the top of the points table, remaining unbeaten in all seven matches and collecting 13 points. They also boast an outstanding net run rate of over 2.404 this season.
Islamabad United are in second place with nine points, while Multan Sultans hold third position with eight points. Quetta Gladiators, Hyderabad Kingsmen, and Karachi Kings are locked in a tight mid-table battle, with all three teams currently on six points heading into the next round.
Lahore Qalandars are struggling near the bottom, managing only two wins and suffering four losses so far. The situation is even worse for Rawalpindiz, who remain at the bottom of the table after failing to register a single win in their first six matches of the tournament.
