Shahid Afridi To Play For Kathmandu Kings XI In Nepal's Everest Premier League (EPL)

As Everest Premier League (EPL) continues to attract big names of the cricketing world, another huge star has been associated with Nepal’s biggest Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament. Former Pakistani captain, Shahid Afridi has been announced as a participant in the upcoming Everest Premier League (EPL) T20 2021 to be hosted by Nepal. Afridi will be turning out for the Kathmandu Kings XI in the EPL 2021.

The Kathmandu Kings are one of the six franchises that will be participating in the EPL 2021, which will be played from September 25 to October 9. The 44-year-old Pakistani all-rounder comes into the T20 league on the back of an illustrious international career that ended in 2018 after playing 27 Tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20Is for Pakistan in a career that began in 1996.

Kathmandu Kings XI Unveil Shahid Afridi As Their Latest Signing For EPL 2021

Kathmandu Kings XI, one of the six franchises participating in the tournament, unveiled Afridi on Monday as their big signing for this season. Kings XI had also roped in Sri Lanka all-rounder Farveez Maharoof and Irish star Kevin O’Brien in previous editions.

Afridi brings with him a bagful of experience both in international and domestic cricket. He has participated in almost every T20 league in existence like the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League to name a few.

The former captain of the Pakistani national team, popularly known as ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ for his massive hits, has scored over 11,000 runs in 27 test matches, 398 ODIs and 99 T20 internationals for the Men in Green.

The EPL 2021 official Twitter account welcomed Shahid Afridi and posted: “BOOM BOOM DO WE NEED TO SAY MORE. @SAfridiOfficial #eplt20 #boomboomafridi  #Afridi @KathmanduKings #daretodream”

Apart from Afridi, previously, big names like South African duo AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla, West Indies Twenty20 legend Chris Gayle were associated with the tournament. However, with the EPL 2021 dates clashing with the second leg of the IPL 2021 in UAE, the availability of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers has been not confirmed.

Everest Premier League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by a private group in Nepal run by Aamir Akhtar, is a two-week tournament scheduled at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
