Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has congratulated Ramiz Raja on becoming the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Shahid Afridi also said that he wants Ramiz Raja to take Pakistan cricket forward under his leadership. Raja, a former Pakistani cricketer, will be taking on the post of chairman of the PCB soon.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated Raja to become the new PCB chairman. Khan has also nominated a businessman Asad Ali Khan for the post. But Raja is highly expected to get the post, being Prime Minister’s nominee. Ramiz Raja will replace Ehsan Mani once the succession process is complete.
I Really Want Ramiz Raja To Take Pakistan Cricket Forward, Says Shahid Afridi
Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi wants Raja to take Pakistan cricket forward. The former all-rounder said that he also suggested Raja to not change the current PCB system immediately.
“He [Ramiz Raja] will be the first PCB chairman whom I have congratulated via a text. I really want him to take Pakistan cricket forward. I just suggested him not to change the current PCB system. Because, I believe every system needs some time to deliver results, changing it immediately will cause problems,” said Afridi.
“PCB Chairman should be a capable person as Raja is but the main decision for him will be to take on people who have sincere intentions for this country and PCB, and are good quality professionals. Only such people can run an institution like PCB where capable people are appointed based on merit. With such people in place, the PCB will rise to greater heights,” Afridi further added.
Ramiz Raja represented Pakistan from 1984 to 1997. The right-hand batter played 57 Tests and 198 ODIs for Pakistan. He mustered 2833 runs in Tests and 5841 runs in ODIs. He smacked 10 centuries in his career, out of which 1 came in Tests and the rest in ODIs. He also slammed 22 half-centuries in Tests and 31 half-centuries in ODIs. He has also been an active commentator and cricket analyst from Pakistan.
