Former Pakistani skipper Rashid Latif has opposed the appointment of Shan Masood, the skipper of the Pakistan Test team, as their new Consultant for International Cricket and Player Affairs. He slammed the PCB as well as the Pakistan management, saying that they might also appoint Masood as the 'finance minister' of Pakistan.

In a recent move, the PCB has appointed its current Test captain, Shan Masood, as the consultant for International Cricket and Player Affairs. This is often considered a massive administrative role in senior men's cricket, and he could soon be promoted to the role of Director of International Cricket.

There has been no word from Masood on the statement issued by the PCB. This appointment, hence, remains shocking as per PCB standards, and given the requirements of the administrative role, questions would be raised over his playing future

Shan Masood trolled with 'Finance Minister' remark

It has been two years since Shan Masood was assigned the Test captaincy for Pakistan; since then, they have won just one Test series against England on their home turf last winter. However, before that, he had become the first Pakistani skipper to have lost a series against Bangladesh.

During his tenure, Pakistan has struggled with ten losses and four wins, which include a drawn series at home against the West Indies and several whitewashes in Australia (3-0) and South Africa (2-0). As a result, Pakistan finished last in the WTC cycle from 2023-25.

After so much failure, he has still been handed an administrative role, which has instigated the former Pakistani skipper, Rashid Latif, who said, "I am of the opinion that it would be even better if Shan Masood is also made the Finance Minister."

Pakistan lost the second Test against South Africa after a heroic win in the first Test

Pakistan lost the second Test against South Africa, after they had started their new WTC campaign with a win in the first Test against the defending champions of the WTC cycle. The first match saw Pakistan dominate as spinner Noman Ali once again outclassed the visiting batters at Rawalpindi.

However, veteran South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has delivered alongside spinner Simon Harmer as they resisted the Pakistan side in the second Test, and the middle-order joined hands to take the defending champions over the line.

Shan Masood has been handed a major administrative role in the PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board is currently actively recruiting for the position of Director of International Cricket, with the last date for applications scheduled on November 2nd. ESPNcricinfo informed that the vacancy could eventually be filled by Shan Masood, as he could perform that task on a caretaker basis.

The previous director, Usman Wahla, was suspended from the role in September, though there has been no confirmation from the PCB over his employment status. It has been reported that Masood and the players were informed of his new role at a dinner reception hosted by the Prime Minister in honour of the visiting South African side.
