Shan Masood might be replaced as the captain of the Test team after a disappointing stint with the Pakistan national cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering removing Masood from captaincy, with the final decision to take place after the Test series against England.

England won the first Test against Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday, October 11. The home team could manage only 220 runs for nine wickets in their second innings. Leg spinner Abrar Ahmed didn't come to bat on the final day of the match due to a fever.

Shan Masood To Be Sacked As Pakistan Test Captain?

Masood became the first Pakistan captain to lose six consecutive Test matches. The Men in Green are at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings. According to Samaa TV, the Pakistan Cricket Board is discussing removing Masood from the leadership role in the Test team.

It is learned that Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha have emerged as potential candidates to replace Masood. The PCB selection committee and coaches are set to meet today.

"Shan Masood is likely to be removed as #Pakistan's Test captain after the #England series due to 'poor performance,' sources reveal. Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, or Salman Ali Agha are potential replacements. PCB selection committee and coaches to meet today," Samaa TV reported.

Pakistan To Face England In Second Test Match On October 15

Masood was appointed as captain of the Test side ahead of the series against Australia, where Pakistan suffered a 0-3 loss. However, the surprise came when they suffered a whitewash loss to Bangladesh in the Test series at home. Notably, Pakistan had not lost to Bangladesh in Tests before that series.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan suffered their seventh defeat at home in 11 Test matches since 2022. Their last home victory came against South Africa in February 2021. The second Test is set to commence on Tuesday, October 15, followed by the final Test match in Rawalpindi starting on October 24.

Shan Masood Have Played Enought Cricket To Read - Steven Finn

Former England fast bowler Steven Finn said that Masood has enough experience to better read the game. Finn said that Pakistan hadn't watched England's play during the summer, adding that it was disappointing for him.

"Shan Masood is 34 and you have played enough cricket at 34 to read passages of play. The disappointment for me was it seemed Pakistan hadn't watched any of the cricket which England had played over the summer," Steven Finn said, as quoted by BCC Test Match Special.
