Former cricketer David Lloyd lashed out at the Pakistan National Cricket Team Test skipper Shan Masood ahead of the Test series against the England National Cricket Team. He said that the captain is not proactive and won't be able to deal with the challenges that Ben Stokes will throw at them.
Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Shan Masood has come under a lot of scanner for his poor captaincy in the longest format of the game. The left-hander was appointed as the Test captain last year, and since then, he hasn't done anything good for the team.
Masood hasn't won a single game as captain of the Pakistan National Cricket Team. He has lost 5 out of the 5 games that he has captained. He became the first Pakistan captain in history to achieve this unwanted feat and also has faced a lot of criticism as well.
Under his leadership, the Pakistan National Cricket Team first faced a 3-0 thrashing against Australia. After that, it was expected that he would come up with a better performance ce, especially with the next Test series being played at home against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
However, that wasn't the case. Under him, Pakistan also faced a 2-0 whitewash against Bangladesh. His position came under scanner as well and there were even reports which claimed that he would sacked. But he got the backing of head coach Jason Gillespie and was retained as the leader.
The road won't be easy for Masood going ahead as Pakistan is slated to lock horns with England next at home. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the three-match Test series, which will begin on 7th October at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.
Ahead of the series, David Lloyd said that playing against Bazball requires a proactive captain which Masood isn't according to him. He explained (as quoted by Cricket Pakistan):
"Playing against Bazball, you have to be proactive because Stokes would try to push them back, and you should be proactive. I am not sure Shan Masood is that sort of person. It's my view."
Shan Masood is a reactive captain, not a proactive captain - David Lloyd ahead of the Test series between England and Pakistan
David Lloyd further called Masood the reactive captain, pointing out that he noticed him when he captained the Yorkshire. He also mentioned that the southpaw is nowhere near former captains Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq, or Misbah-ul-Haq. He added:
"Shan Masood is a reactive captain, not a proactive captain. I have seen his captaincy for Yorkshire. He is not like Pakistan's former captains Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq, or Misbah-ul-Haq."
Shan Masood will be having a massive opportunity to silence all the criticism in the upcoming Test series against England. The team has started preparing for the series and would want to turn things around.
