The 32-year-old West Indies National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Shane Dowrich has announced his retirement from international cricket despite being part of the ODI squad for the upcoming series against the England National Cricket Team.

Dowrich played his one and only ODI match for West Indies National Cricket Team in 2019 against Bangladesh and he recently got his ODI recall. Shane Dowrich was picked in the ODI squad after his brilliant performance in the Super50 Cup where he scored 234 runs in five innings at an average of 78 and strike rate of 91.76.

However, 10 days after his ODI recall, he announced his retirement from international cricket, making himself unavailable for the series. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has not named any replacement, hence, skipper Shai Hope will be the only wicketkeeper-batter in the squad.

Dowrich played 35 Tests for West Indies after making his international debut against Australia in Dominica in 2015. He scored 1,570 runs at an average of 29.07, including three tons.

“We want to thank Shane Dowrich for contribution” – Miles Bascombe

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe, in an official media release, thanked Shane Dowrich for his contribution to the West Indies cricket. He also wished the wicketkeeper-batter best for his future away from international cricket.

“We want to thank Shane for contribution when he played for West Indies. He is a disciplined, hard-working cricketer who always gave his utmost in front and behind the stumps. He had a memorable series in 2019 when he made an outstanding Test century on home soil in Barbados to help us beat England and win the Wisden Trophy. We respect his decision to retire and appreciate it is not an easy one to make. We wish him all the best as he steps away from the international stage.”

Talking about the series between England and the West Indies, it will be played on December 3, 6, and 9 in Antigua, and Barbados.
