The Mumbai cricket team has suffered another setback ahead of their third-round match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season, as all-rounder Shardul Thakur will miss the Haryana clash. Shardul Thakur has already missed Mumbai's first two matches after suffering a fracture in his right middle finger during a training session before the opening round of the first-class tournament.

The Mumbai team was hoping to have Thakur back for the third game, but the experienced all-rounder is still not fit enough to play with the finger injury ruling him out of the Haryana game. Earlier, Rohit Sharma starts training in Mumbai amid Ranji Trophy for New Zealand ODIs.

Shardul Thakur to miss Haryana clash in Ranji Trophy 2026-27

The senior all-rounder Shardul Thakur was forced to miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy 2026-27 clash against Haryana, which will get underway on Monday (October 26) at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.

The team will continue with the same squad that defeated Himachal Pradesh in Bilaspur with a bonus point in the previous round of the tournament.

Thakur injured his right middle finger while training ahead of Mumbai's first-round match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026-27. The injury was later confirmed as a fracture, and the initial expectation was that the seasoned all-rounder would miss at least the first two rounds.

Shardul Thakur's comeback delayed as he takes up commentary duties

Although Thakur has started training with the Mumbai squad, he has not yet regained full match fitness. He was also seen attending a Major League Baseball event in Mumbai on Saturday (October 24) evening alongside India’s former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Since he can’t take part in the Haryana match in Mumbai, Thakur will work as a commentator for some of India's ongoing five-match T20I series matches against New Zealand. The Mumbai all-rounder last played competitive cricket in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final for West Zone against North Zone in late August.

The all-rounder bowled 14 overs and took one wicket while scoring 10 runs in his only batting innings. He didn’t face a ball in the second innings, as the West Zone was crushed by 54 runs by the North Zone in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final.

Mumbai aim to extend Ranji Trophy dominance despite selection concerns

Mumbai is already without the new vice-captain, Ayush Mhatre, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is also unavailable, as he is in New Zealand and is expected to play the Test matches after the ongoing India A series.

To deal with this situation, the Mumbai selectors have added the opening batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi and all-rounder Suryansh Shedge to the squad before the second round.

Despite these injury and availability concerns, Mumbai have made a strong start to their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 campaign. They currently sit at the top of Elite Group D with 14 points and will look to strengthen their position when they face Haryana at home.
