Lahore Qalandars have appointed former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait as their new head coach ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2027. Shaun Tait will replace South African coach Russell Domingo and take charge of the team for the upcoming PSL season.
The 43-year-old brings plenty of experience from his previous coaching roles in Pakistan to the franchise ahead of the new season, having worked with the Pakistan national cricket team and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.

Shaun Tait joins Lahore Qalandars ahead of PSL 2027
As reported by Pakistani media, Shaun Tait has now joined the Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars as the head coach ahead of the PSL 2027. The decision was announced by Lahore Qalandars director Sameen Rana during a podcast on Thursday (November 5).
Tait is already familiar with the franchise, as he already serves as the head coach for the Global Super League (GSL) 2026. He will now continue in the same role in the PSL with the Lahore Qalandars. Lahore Qalandars director Sameen Rana confirmed that the franchise had already agreed with Tait to make him the head coach during the GSL 2026.
Sameen Rana said on the podcast: “He will continue, yeah. We had an agreement with him during the GSL. We had told him to be our head coach in GSL 2026 itself.”

Tait represented Australia in three Tests, 35 ODIs, and 21 T20Is. He was also part of Australia's 2007 World Cup-winning team and was known for his extreme pace during his playing days.
Tait has plenty of coaching experience by working with international teams and T20 franchises across the subcontinent. He has served Pakistan as a fast-bowling coach twice, first from February 2022 to early 2023 and again in October 2026, replacing Ashley Noffke ahead of the Sri Lanka T20I series.
He also worked as Bangladesh's pace-bowling coach after joining in May 2025. However, he stepped down after around a year to spend more time with his family and reduce travel. In 2021, Tait also worked as a bowling consultant for Afghanistan and guided the team during the T20 World Cup.
At franchise level, Tait worked with Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2024 and also had coaching roles with Karachi Kings and Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. He now joined Lahore Qalandars for the GSL 2026 before being promoted as their head coach for PSL 2027.
Lahore Qalandars are among the most successful teams in Pakistan Super League history, having won three titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025. However, their journey was not easy, as they finished at the bottom of the table in their first few seasons and struggled to reach the playoffs.
Their turnaround began under Shaheen Afridi's captaincy, with the team winning back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. They also won their third PSL title in 2025 after defeating Quetta Gladiators by six wickets. However, Lahore finished fifth in 2026 and missed the playoffs.
