Former Team India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has come out in support of Rohit Sharma after the team's recent Test series loss against New Zealand at home. Shikhar Dhawan said that it's not fair to judge Rohit Sharma as captain based on a single defeat, adding that wins and losses are part of the game.

India lost the second Test of the three-match series against New Zealand by 113 runs in Pune on Saturday, October 26. The Black Caps ended India's impressive 12-year unbeaten record in home Test series wins. This defeat also ended a remarkable run of 18 consecutive Test series victories at home.

That Neither A Fair Nor A Practical - Shikhar Dhawan

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Shikhar Dhawan has defended Rohit Sharma, stating that it's unfair to judge him based on a single Test series loss to New Zealand. Dhawan said that there is pressure in cricket and players don't let the outcomes dwell on them.

"The pressure you all talk about isn't something we feel. While there is pressure in the game, we don't dwell on losses or wins; that's part of the game. I feel that's neither a fair nor a practical approach toward anything," Dhawan told IndiaToday.in.

India Bowled Out For Just 46 Runs In First Innings Of Bengaluru Test

The Rohit Sharma-led team was bowled out for just 46 runs, their lowest total at home, in the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. They lost the match by eight wickets, which is their first defeat to New Zealand at home in 36 years. Rohit also received criticism for his tactics in the second Test.

India is currently trailing 0-2 in the three-match Test series against New Zealand. The Indian skipper has also struggled with the bat in the series. He scored just 62 runs across four innings, with his best score of 52 runs in the first Test. Rohit managed only 42 runs across four innings against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma Is A Great Leader - Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan believes Rohit Sharma's leadership goes beyond just wins and losses. The former batter said that Rohit creates a strong bond with the team, describing him as a great leader. He remains hopeful about India's performance on the upcoming tour of Australia.

"As a cricketer, we don't think that way. And Rohit is a great leader; it's not just about winning and losing. There's a bond, the team's connection with its leader, and how much they look up to him," Dhawan added.

"India will do very well in Australia. Whether he plays the first match or not, of course, his presence and experience will be missed. But I am sure the boys are very, very professional and will perform well," he concluded.
