Former Indian opener Shiv Sundar Das has been appointed as the batting coach of the Indian Women’s team ahead of the upcoming tour of England.

Das was a last-minute appointment and if a report published in CricBuzz is to be believed, the former opener was recommended by NCA chief Rahul Dravid.

The 43-year-old will now travel to England where the Women in Blue will lock horns with the hosts in a one-off Test followed by six white-ball Internationals- 3 ODIs + 3 T20Is.

Shiv Sundar Das, who has been attached to the National Cricket Academy, has previously served as the head coach of the India A and Emerging Women’s team and many current Indian internationals like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Priya Puniya have played under him.

According to CricBuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI], which recently replaced head coach WV Raman with former coach Ramesh Powar, finalized the rest of the coaching staff on Monday, May 17.

While former chief selector of Baroda, Rajkuvardevi Gaikwad, has been appointed as the manager of the side, Abhay Sharma, who had previously traveled with the senior team, has been appointed as fielding coach.

With the England and Wales Cricket Board requesting the BCCI to keep the squad strength below 30, the board is not sending a bloated squad and hence, Ramesh Powar will double-up as a head coach + bowling coach in the absence of Narendra Hirwani.
