West Indies women cricketers Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Kycia Knight, and Kyshona Knight have retired from international cricket.

All these four players had a very famous quartet and served the West Indies for a long period. Anisa Mohammed and Shakera Selman served as the captain and vice-captain of the West Indies women’s cricket team in their 20 and 18-year-old careers for West Indies.

All these four cricketers informed the CWI about their decision and the board issued a press release for the same in informing about the development. The press release read, “West Indies Women’s cricketers Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Kycia Knight and Kyshona Knight have confirmed their retirement from international cricket. Mohammed and Selman both served as vice-captains during their 20- and 18-year careers respectively, all players recently communicated their decisions to CWI.”

Famous West Indies Women’s quartet announce international retirement

Anisa Mohammed made her debut for Windies at the age of just 15 in the year 2003. Mohammed played her first international match against Japan during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifier in the Netherlands. Mohammed has played a total of 141 ODIs and 117 T20Is for the Windies women’s cricket team. During her stint for the team, she picked up 180 ODI wickets followed by 125 T20I wickets.

During 2016 she became the first ever cricketer on the planet, be it male or female to pick 100 wickets in T20Is. She was also the first bowler to take a hat trick for West Indies in a women’s T20I match. Mohammed played her last match for West Indies in 2022 during the Women’s ODI World Cup.

Shakera Selman on the other hand made her international debut for Windies in 2008 against Ireland. Selman has played a total of 100 ODIs and 96 T20Is matches and has picked a total of 82 and 51 wickets respectively. Selman was also part of the West Indies T20 World Cup winning squad in 2016.

Talking about the Knight twins, Kycia and Kyshona made their first international appearance for the West Indies in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Kycia Knight, who is a wicketkeeper batter has the record of most stumping dismissals in a T20I innings which is 5. She also holds the record for most catches and stumping in a T20I inning which is 4. Kycia has played a total of 87 ODIs and 55 T20Is, in which she has scored 1327 and 801 runs respectively. On the other hand, Kyshona has also represented the West Indies in 106 international matches and has scored 1397 international runs.

CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe also paid his tribute to the quartet and stated that all four players have made great impact in Windies and world cricket. Bascombe added that their legacies will continue to inspire and guide the future generation to play for West Indies.

He said, “Anisa, Shakera, Kycia and Kyshona have had all made significant individual impacts on women’s cricket the West Indies and the world. Their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship have not only elevated our team but also captivated cricket fans worldwide. Their legacies, as members of the title-winning ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad of 2016 and individual milestones, will continue to influence and guide future generations to aspire to wear the Maroon.”

Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Kycia Knight, and Kyshona Knight were the part of West Indies T20 World Cup-winning team in 2016.
