Another close contest in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). Tonight, after a rain-strewn evening, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RR vs RCB) were engaged in a fiery contest. Ahead of the match, both sides were undefeated. However, one of these two teams has now been defeated, leaving their name tarnished.

Under the wet conditions, RR bowlers started their campaign in a well-rehearsed manner against the defending champions. The first delivery of the match, which Jofra Archer delivered to dismiss Phil Salt, was an absolute jaffa.

Rajat Patidar kept Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the contest

In the initial half of the first innings, Virat Kohli chipped in with a 32-run knock. At a point in the first innings, when RR bowlers were in a commanding position, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar stood tall. Patidar's 63-run innings against 40 balls, not only stabilized the batting part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru but also took care of the run rate. Later, explosive cameos from Romario Shepherd and Venkatesh Iyer secured a healthy total of 201 for their team.

After recovering from injury, Josh Hazlewood played the first match of the season for RCB. The Australian star pacer's involvement proved impactful when he clinched the scalp of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal departed quickly, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi remained on the track, toying with the RCB bowling unit.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel claimed the win for RR

The 15-year-old prodigy scored a quick-fire 78-run knock against 26 balls only. The southpaw smacked eight 4s and seven 6s to maintain a massive strike rate of 300.00. On 129 runs, the Rajasthan Royals lost two back-to-back wickets, first Sooryavanshi and then Shimron Hetmyer. Krunal Pandya brought RCB back into the contest again. Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag also departed soon.

Dhruv Jurel, who is the new number three batter for the Royals this season, holds his nerves strong and keeps delivering shots to help the team recover from those quick blows. Dhruv Jurel remained undefeated for 81 runs off 43, securing a 6-wicket win for the Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals remained top of the points table, winning 4 out of 4 matches they have played. This is the third time RR have started their IPL season with four or more consecutive wins; after five straight wins in 2015 and four on the bounce in 2024.

I made a few bad decisions: Riyan Parag, RR captain

"Yeah, absolutely. The previous, keeping the previous years in mind, I feel we were not up to the mark in a few years that we've played here, but today I think it was very clinical. It's always about getting better. I feel the way we bowled, the way we started, I would have been happy with 200. But I think the way we clawed back in the middle overs, I still think we were like 20 over par," Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals said after the match.

"We should have bowled a little better, executed a little better. Maybe I made a few bad decisions and restricted them to like a 170-ish. But yeah, things to learn every game. (what mistakes were done today while bowling?)"

"I think a few balls here and there. This is a wicket where not a lot of sixes are hit down the ground, especially our spinners. So I felt at some points we gave a little bit of room, played to the batsman's advantage," he added.
