Shreyas Iyer crowned ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March; beats these players

Team India batter Shreyas Iyer was named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for March following his impressive performances during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian batter is delighted at receiving the prestigious award after the Rohit Sharma-led team's victory in the eight-team tournament.

New Zealand duo Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy were also nominated for Player of the Month for March. Iyer edged them out to win the award following his impressive performances. The batter became the second Indian cricketer to win the accolade this year, following Shubman Gill's victory in February.

Shreyas Iyer was the top run-scorer for India in the ICC Champions Trophy. He played a key role in the team's triumph, ending a 12-year drought in major ODI tournaments. Iyer scored a vital 79 runs against New Zealand on a difficult pitch in Dubai during the group stage.

The 30-year-old batter scored 45 runs in the semi-final against Australia. He finished the tournament with 48 runs in the final against New Zealand. The Rohit Sharma-led team successfully chased down the target to win the ICC 50-over title for the first time since 2013.

Iyer amassed 243 runs from five matches at an average of 48.60, with a strike rate close to 80. He was the second-highest run scorer, just behind Rachin Ravindra.

Speaking to the ICC after being named Player of the Month, Shreyas Iyer said that being recognized with the award was truly special. He shared how much the victory in the Champions Trophy meant to him, adding that it would be a cherished memory.

"I’m truly honored to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This recognition is incredibly special, especially in a month where we lifted the ICC Champions Trophy — a moment I will cherish forever," Iyer said.

Shreyas Iyer is Currently Leading the Punjab Kings in IPL 2025

Shreyas Iyer is currently captaining the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL season. He has helped the team secure three wins from five matches. The right-handed batter has scored 250 runs in five games, with an average of 83.33 and a strike rate of 208.33.

Iyer’s performance has also put him in contention for a return to the T20I squad. The middle-order batter is expected to rejoin the BCCI's pool of centrally contracted players.

He has shown his dedication to domestic cricket by representing Mumbai in several tournaments during the 2024-25 season, including the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
