Legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar feels that Shreyas Iyer did not get enough credit after KKR's IPL 2024 title win last year. Gavaskar feels that Iyer deserved more, as his numbers as a captain suggest.
Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title win in IPL 2024. However, he decided to go into the mega auction instead of being retained by KKR and was ultimately signed by Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of INR 26.75 crore.

Sunil Gavaskar's blunt remark on Shreyas Iyer's captaincy
While doing the commentary during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Sunil Gavaskar gave a scathing remark that Shreyas Iyer wasn't given enough credit for KKR's win in 2024 despite his excellent captaincy record.
"Shreyas (Iyer) was the captain of the KKR side that won in IPL 2024, and I believe that he did not get the credit that he deserved. His captaincy record is quite impressive," Gavaskar said on commentary.
Iyer played a key role in KKR's win last year, both as a batter and as a captain. The right-hander played a no. of match-winning knocks in the middle order and was also impressive with his leadership skills.
His camaraderie with the team's head coach Chandrakant Pandit and then-mentor Gautam Gambhir worked out perfectly for the franchise as KKR produced a thoroughly dominating performance.
Shreyas Iyer is in excellent form
Shreyas Iyer was signed by Punjab Kings in the mega auction and was appointed the team's captain as well. Punjab is one of the few teams left that are yet to win the trophy, as they have high expectations from Iyer this time around.
He has shown excellent batting form in both the matches he has played so far. In the first match, he scored 97 off just 42 balls in a high-scoring game at Ahmedabad against the home team, Gujarat Titans.
Iyer struck 5 fours and 9 sixes during his knock while batting at No. 3. The right-hander didn't stop here and smashed another half-century in the next game. He scored 52 off just 30 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Iyer has scored 149 runs in two matches so far without getting dismissed even once. He has scored these runs at a strike rate of 206.94 and is looking in great form. Iyer will be expected to lead his team from the front in the upcoming matches as well.

Punjab Kings are in great form
Punjab Kings look in great form as they have registered victories in both the games they have played so far. They transformed their team and the coaching staff ahead of this season, and the move seems to be working for them so far. Currently, they are at the second spot in the points table.
Apart from Iyer, young batters like Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Nehal Wadhera have shown great promise as well. With the ball, Arshdeep Singh has looked menacing while Lockie Ferguson has added a new dimension to this attack.
