"Shreyas Iyer doesn't impose"- Arshdeep Singh's salty jibe at Rohit Sharma

Punjab Kings made wholesale changes during the IPL 2025 mega auction to build a totally different team this time around. One of the biggest changes for them was to acquire the services of Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer was signed for a mammoth amount of INR 26.75 crore by Punjab Kings in the auction and was later named their captain as well. Recently, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh opened up on Iyer as a captain and hailed his approach.

Arshdeep praised Iyer for backing his players and trusting their skills which makes it easier for them to perform under his leadership. He also spoke about his previous experiences of playing under Iyer's captaincy.

Arshdeep Singh breaks silence on Shreyas Iyer's captaincy

While speaking to JioHotstar, Arshdeep Singh was asked about the experience of playing under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The left-arm quick recalled previous instances of playing under Iyer's captaincy and spoke about the freedom that the players receive.

"I have played with Shreyas Iyer before, under his captaincy in the Duleep Trophy, and I really enjoyed it. He always backed his players and gave them the freedom to express themselves," said Arshdeep.

The left-arm pacer further mentioned about Iyer encourages his players to play with freedom and backs them despite the failure. His approach is selfless that is helpful for the team.

"What I've noticed here is that his approach remains the same, he doesn't impose rigid instructions but encourages players to trust their skills and play for the team," Arshdeep said.

"He promotes a selfless approach, assuring full backing to the players. I truly admire this mindset, and as players, we will do our best to support him and help the team win back-to-back titles," he added.

Punjab Kings hoping for first IPL title under Shreyas Iyer

Iyer has an excellent captaincy record as he led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title win last year. He has excellent credentials as a captain and also led Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title during late 2024.

Punjab Kings is one of the three teams that is yet to win a title despite playing the IPL from the beginning. The other two teams are Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, the Kings have built an excellent squad this time around under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

Punjab will hope that Iyer can repeat the heroics of the last year and lead them to their first ever IPL title this year. However, it remains to be seen how they maintain that consistency over a perfiod of time.

Great start to the season for Shreyas Iyer

Iyer started the season with a bang as he struck an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls in Punjab Kings' opening match of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad.

He struck 5 fours and 9 gigantic sixes during his knock. The right-hander led his team from the front while batting at No. 3 and took them to victory.

His knock is a great sign for Punjab Kings ahead of a long tournament. Kings will play their next game against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1 at Lucknow.
