Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was ruled out of the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) due to injury, raising concerns about his availability. Spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi confirmed that Chahal was dealing with an injury ahead of the crucial playoff matches in the marquee tournament.
Punjab Kings lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the match on May 24 in Jaipur. After being put in to bat first, PBKS posted a total of 206 for 8. However, DC, led by Faf du Plessis, chased down the target with three balls to spare. The absence of Yuzvendra Chahal was felt in PBKS’s bowling performance.
Yuzvendra Chahal Has a Small Niggle - PBKS Coach Sunil Joshi
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Sunil Joshi confirmed that Yuzvendra Chahal was rested due to a minor injury. Joshi did not provide detailed information about the issue but admitted that the team’s spin attack was less effective without Chahal.
"Chahal has a small niggle, so we are just resting him. That's the idea," Sunil Joshi said.
Praveen Dubey was brought into the Punjab Kings playing XI to replace Yuzvendra Chahal. Dubey bowled only two overs, conceding 20 runs without taking a wicket. Karun Nair hit four consecutive fours in his second over. Meanwhile, Brar managed to take 2 wickets for 41 runs.
Yuzvendra Chahal Takes 14 Wickets in 12 Matches in IPL 2025
Yuzvendra Chahal battled a shoulder injury earlier in IPL 2025 but still played a key role in Punjab Kings’ win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Mullanpur, where he was named player of the match for his impressive 4-28 bowling figures.
Chahal has taken 14 wickets in 12 matches this season, but his overall performance has been inconsistent. Chahal had a slow start, claiming just one wicket in his first four games.
However, he found his rhythm later in the tournament, even achieving his second IPL hat-trick during the match against CSK in April. With the playoffs approaching, PBKS are hopeful that the experienced spinner will be available for selection.
