Shreyas Iyer loses cool on first public appearance after laceration injury in Australia
PC: X

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, who is recovering from his spleen laceration, recently lost his cool after he faced a security breach while attending a birthday party.

Shreyas Iyer has been India's finest performer with the bat ever since the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. He was brought into the squad, replacing Rishabh Pant, and then went on to make a place for himself in the XI.

Shreyas was one of India's top three run-getters in the ODI World Cup and was their highest run-getter in the ICC Champions Trophy, which they won earlier this year in Dubai. He then also played back-to-back IPL finals, leading KKR to win in 2024 and PBKS to a runners-up position in 2025.

Shreyas Iyer loses cool over security personnel

Shreyas Iyer is recovering from a serious injury, which has ruled him out of participation in the game for around two or more months. However, this time he has gained the limelight for some other reason.

The Indian batter's recent video chiding his security personnel when he attempted to take a selfie with the cricketer went viral on social media, which has sparked a fresh debate on player safety.

In the clip, Iyer can be seen walking through a crowded area with fans closing in on him. Instead of clearing the path, one of the security personnel appears to step in for a selfie just like a fan, as the cricketer immediately snapped back.

“Bhai, tumhara kaam hai hatana,” a pointed reminder that the guard’s duty was to control the crowd, not to add to it. This happened when he was notably celebrating the birthday of his Punjab Kings teammate Shashank Singh.

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out for the South Africa and New Zealand home tour

Shreyas Iyer has been snubbed from his participation in the upcoming series against South Africa and New Zealand. India are scheduled to play their upcoming series against South Africa from the 30th of November.

On the other hand, the next series will be played between India and New Zealand under home conditions, as it will be their first series of 2026. The Indian vice-captain has been ruled out of the series.

Punjab Kings get a massive roadblock with Shreyas' injury

Punjab Kings, the IPL franchise that made it to their second IPL final under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, suffered a major blow as it came out that Iyer would enter the Indian Premier League 2026 with very less game time. Shreyas also scored 600+ runs in the season.

Punjab Kings are threatened by the fact that if Shreyas Iyer's return date is pushed further, then Shashank Singh can take over as the new skipper of the side, but they would surely lose their finest ever middle-order batter.
