Shresta Iyer, sister of Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer, received severe online threats following a controversial video on Instagram. She posted a reel trolling the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after their recent IPL match ended in a washout, but later deleted the post after facing backlash on social media.
The controversy began after rain abandoned the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on Monday. The home side was struggling at 25 for two before heavy showers stopped play. Both teams shared one point, giving Kolkata Knight Riders their first point of the season.
Shresta Iyer posted a video wearing a Punjab Kings jersey with her friends. She took a dig at the Kolkata Knight Riders for getting a free point due to heavy rain. Shresta said Punjabis have big hearts and “gifted” one point to Kolkata that night.
The viral Instagram reel included a line that quickly angered Kolkata Knight Riders fans. Shresta recorded the video in Punjabi to mock the struggling opposition. She delivered a sharp one-liner that spread across social media on Monday.
“Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda ae. Lo, ditta ek point. (We Punjabis are big-hearted. So, we gave you a point).”
Shresta Iyer Deletes Video After Receiving Threats
While Shresta Iyer intended the video as light-hearted banter, many Kolkata Knight Riders fans took offense. Angry supporters criticized her across social media platforms. She started receiving aggressive threat messages along with regular negative comments.
Following the severe online harassment, Shresta Iyer deleted the controversial Instagram reel on Thursday. She shared a public statement addressing the issue and expressed disappointment over the threats she received for a video she never intended to harm anyone.
“I’ve decided to take down my recent video as it seems it was misunderstood by some. It was meant to be light-hearted banter, but I respect that not everyone saw it that way. However, it’s been quite upsetting to receive not just negativity, but also a few threat messages over it. That’s something I didn’t expect, especially for something that was never intended to harm anyone.”

“Let’s Try To Be Kinder” - Shreyas Iyer' sister Shresta Iyer
Shresta Iyer clarified why she removed the viral video from her Instagram account. The PBKS skipper sister said that she did not delete it out of guilt but removed it to show respect to Shreyas Iyer and his Punjab Kings teammates.
“I’m not removing the video because I believe I did something wrong, but because I respect my brother and his team, and I don’t want this space to turn into one filled with negativity. Let’s try to be a little kinder and more understanding with each other.”
Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title in 2024. However, the franchise parted ways with their title-winning captain after failing to agree on retention terms ahead of IPL 2025.
Shreyas is currently enjoying success with Punjab Kings. The Indian batter joined former coach Ricky Ponting and guided Punjab to the final in 2025. His team also looks strong this year, with five points from three games.
