Shreyas Iyer's sister issues clarification on jibe at KKR, refuses to back down
Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta, has been the centre of attention on the internet following her controversial video after the rain-washed game between PBKS and KKR. The young woman has shared a clarification on social media explaining her stand.
IPL has never been away from controversies, but in recent times, social media has heightened these controversies due to the increasing involvement and interaction of non-playing entities with the game. However, the pseudosocial people on these platforms are not able to handle humour in any of its forms.
This has more often led to controversial build-ups involving franchise teams, nations, former cricketers, and many more. KKR has already been amid controversies and criticisms this year due to their poor performance and their skipper's bold remarks; however, for the first time, they got the opportunity to turn the tables off the field, and they used it to their benefit.

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer returned to his former franchise's den at the Eden Gardens for the PBKS vs KKR match in IPL 2026. Kolkata had faced two defeats, while the Kings, the runners-up from the last season, started their campaign with two promising wins.
Iyer has largely been known to be accompanied by his family, mostly his sister, Shresta Iyer. She was also seen in KKR colours when Iyer captained them back in 2024 and won his maiden IPL title as a skipper and a player.
After the game was washed out, Shresta, as is known to all, made a controversial post on social media, which was supposed to be a sharp jibe by the KKR fans. She spoke in Punjabi, claiming that Punjabis have big hearts, so take one point. This was considered an effort to humiliate KKR, making a mockery of their losing streak.
Shresta Iyer issues a clarification for the social media clip
After the widespread criticism and backlash on social media following the viral clip, as KKR fans claimed that it was disrespect for the franchise that even Shreyas Iyer once represented, the cricketer's sister has now issued a clarification.
She claimed on Tuesday that no attack was meant personally; it was just her way to express herself and celebrate her joy, and she would not back down from continuing it.
“Guys, I don't understand why the hatred is being spread. It's just a game. The videos are just for fun, and I am here to support my brother. I will continue to do that. No hate for any team, it's just a game. Everyone should take it sportingly,” said Shresta in a video shared on Instagram Stories.
“I understand aggression. I wasn't trolling anybody. It was my way of celebration, and I am going to continue doing that. I am just here to say no hate for anybody. Only love is a game. We all should have fun. The rivalry should show, no matter what. There were no personal attacks, just chill. Peace out, guys,” she added.
KKR vs PBKS washout handed the Knight Riders their first point
The Shreyas Iyer-captained side looked in full control after the first few overs that were bowled in the powerplay, before the storm hit Eden Gardens. Iyer's side had dismissed two of the KKR top-order batters, and that too, the big fish in Cameron Green and Finn Allen.
The build-up of the game is expected to see another batting collapse for the Knights. Hence, all headlines screamed that if the rain god did not favour the Knight Riders in Kolkata, they would not have stood a chance to win that match.
Though it remains total speculation, as nothing is predictable in a cricket match, KKR had also made subtle changes to their squad to take on the Shreyas Iyer-led Red Devils.
