Shresta Iyer, sister of Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer, captured massive internet attention following the IPL 2026 fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). She posted a humorous video on Instagram taking a light-hearted dig at Kolkata Knight Riders after the match was abandoned due to rain.

The Knight Riders suffered a poor start after Ajinkya Rahane chose to bat first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, April 6. The visiting pace bowlers exploited the overcast conditions. However, persistent rain forced the umpires to abandon the match without completing even four overs in the first innings.

Saade Punjabiyan Da Dil Vadda Hunda Hai - Shreyas Iyer's Sister

After the match abandonment, Shresta Iyer shared a witty Punjabi remark targeting Kolkata Knight Riders fans. Both teams shared one point each from the washed-out fixture. Shresta playfully suggested that Punjab Kings donated that single point to the struggling team.

“Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point. (We Punjabis have big hearts… here, take a point!)”

Cricket fans appreciated the culturally rich and good-natured banter, turning a frustrating, rain-interrupted evening into a memorable online moment and a display of light-hearted sportsmanship between the two fanbases.

Xavier Bartlett Dominates Kolkata Knight Riders Top Order

Before the rain interrupted play, Punjab Kings fast bowler Xavier Bartlett delivered a strong opening spell. The overseas pacer used the swing-friendly conditions to dismiss Finn Allen for six runs and then removed Cameron Green for four, putting Kolkata Knight Riders under early pressure.

Arshdeep Singh also bowled a disciplined opening over against Ajinkya Rahane. The consistent bowling from Punjab Kings made things difficult for the batters, making full use of the overcast conditions at Eden Gardens.

Kolkata Knight Riders were reeling at 25 for two in 3.4 overs when rain arrived. Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Despite efforts from the ground staff, excess water on the field prevented any further play before the cutoff time.

The rain stopped around 10:30 pm, but the damage was already done. Notably, the match could not restart, and both KKR and PBKS captains shook hands at 10:58 pm.

Punjab Kings Secure Top Position In IPL 2026 Standings

The shared point helped Punjab Kings climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table. Shreyas Iyer and his team have five points from three matches. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders opened their account but remain in eighth place with one point.

Kolkata Knight Riders missed their key spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy due to illness and injury. This left Ajinkya Rahane with limited bowling options before the match, making the rain abandonment a slightly favorable outcome for the home side.

The Ajinkya Rahane-led side will next face Lucknow Super Giants, looking for their first win of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Shreyas Iyer-led team will travel to Mullanpur to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11. The Kings will be aiming to continue their unbeaten run.
