Shreyas Iyer hasn’t been picked in the squad of the Indian team despite performing in domestic cricket. Iyer was also not included in the India A squad for the England tour. On the other hand, KL Rahul was not given the captaincy or vice-captaincy spot.
Ajit Agarkar confirmed that although Shreyas Iyer has played well in domestic cricket, currently, there is no place for him in the India Test squad. As far as KL Rahul's leadership role is concerned, Agarkar has revealed why he was snubbed.
No room for Shreyas Iyer, claims Ajit Agarkar
The selection committee picked six batters for the England tour, and Shreyas Iyer couldn’t make it to the squad.
Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who have been performing in domestic cricket for the past few years, were selected over him.
"Yeah, Shreyas Iyer has played well in domestic cricket but at the moment There is no room for him in the Test Team,” Ajit Agarkar stated.
Iyer scored two centuries in the five first-class matches this season. Iyer has scored runs in every format in domestic cricket this season but couldn't make it to the squad for the England tour.
Agarkar reveals why Bumrah or KL Rahul were not given leadership roles
Ajit Agarkar praised KL Rahul, as Rahul is a very important player for the team. Rahul also has experience playing in English conditions.
Rahul scored a ton in England as well. But he was also overlooked in the leadership role in the new generation side because the selectors didn't want to give him more burden, same like Bumrah. The selection committee wants Rahul and Bumrah to give their best with bat and ball, respectively. Rahul may be an ideal candidate for taking the responsibility on his own shoulders.
"KL Rahul is a very important player for us - we are hoping for a big series from him in England. He is Crucial for us,” Ajit Agarkar added.

Rishabh Pant was chosen over KL Rahul
Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant was announced as the new vice-captain over experienced KL Rahul for the Indian Test team.
Pant replaces Bumrah from the vice-captaincy role in the red-ball format. Bumrah was the deputy of Rohit Sharma, but now the selectors want to take the Indian side to a rebuilding phase for the next generation. They have selected Pant as the deputy of Gill in the longest form of the game.
The wicket-keeper has been one of the Indian test batters who is performing in the red-ball format consistently. By looking up his performances in the toughest format, the selection committee chose Pant for the vice-captaincy role.
