Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, the two GT openers, have now completed 22 half-century partnerships in the IPL as an opening pair, breaking the former record set by Virat Kohli and his RCB teammates.
The Gujarat Titans have not had the best of batting lineups in the history of the IPL, yet they are one of the most productive batting units and have amassed several batting records. These batting records have splurged over the past three seasons under Gill's captaincy.
Gujarat is taking on rivals Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 at the New Chandigarh Stadium, where the RR team crushed their opponents in the Eliminator. Having batted first, RR has played its part, and the GT batters have a considerable amount of work to be done.
GT openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill break Virat Kohli's massive IPL record
The Gujarat Titans have often been criticized for being way too dependent on their top three for the majority of their run scoring. The top three batters have contributed to nearly 70% of the runs scored by the Titans.
However, the remarkable consistency by their top three is enough to make any team envious. Sudharsan has completed nearly 700 runs this season, while Shubman Gill is also nearing the landmark while batting against the Royals.
They together put on a stunning fifty-run partnership and handed their team a good start. This was their 22nd fifty-plus partnership in the IPL, breaking the former record between RCB great Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle.
Most 50+ Partnerships by a Pair in the IPL

21 – AB de Villiers & Virat Kohli (RCB)
21 – Chris Gayle & Virat Kohli (RCB)
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan closing in on 700 runs in IPL 2026
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan both might not look like the most aggressive batters best suited for a T20I game. However, they are much more conventional batters who have made us believe that orthodox cricketing shots can still make it happen across any format of the game.
However, these two have been remarkably consistent over the seasons for the Titans. The way these two have accumulated runs has been amazing. Sudharsan finished with 750+ runs last season, while Shubman too stacked up over 600 runs.
This time they have returned stronger, as Sudharsan chases 700 runs this season, and so does the skipper, Shubman Gill, who is well within the reach of the massive milestone. Never before has it happened in IPL history that two batters of the same side have gone past 700 runs in a season.
Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar have been excellent in a supporting role
Jos Buttler might not have performed at his very best this season with the amount of reliability by his standards set in the former seasons by the English great, yet he has been quite effective in a supporting role for the two openers.
Buttler, who has 498 runs this season, is inching closer to another finish with 500+ runs in an IPL season. He has been one of those quick-scoring batters at times when his team needed to build it through those middle overs.
Washington Sundar, the all-rounder from India who has been promoted to a massive new role by head coach Ashish Nehra, has kept his faith and has delivered with excellence. He has amassed 311 runs and has stood up for his team whenever his team needed him to.
