During the regime of head coach Gautam Gambhir and selector-in-chief Ajit Agarkar, the future of Virat and Rohit looked uncertain with the India National Cricket Team in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup in 2027. During an online discussion between four TOI journalists, it is claimed that the selectors and captain Shubman Gill are backing the experienced batter duo for the tournament.
Selectors are behind Rohit Sharma for the 2027 ODI World Cup
If the claims are to be believed, then both Virat and Rohit are all set to become a part of India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad. Pratyush Raj, a Times of India journalist, claims that with Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh in the selection panel for the national cricket team, the momentum is currently with Rohit Sharma. According to Pratyush Raj, “Both of the selectors have put their weight behind Rohit Sharma.”

Referring to Sahil Malhotra’s previous report, who is also a Times of India journalist, Pratyush said that due to the vast experience of Rohit Sharma, the selectors will prefer to keep the 39-year-old opener in the squad for the upcoming title race next year.
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are not in bad terms
The same goes for Virat Kohli as well. There were some reports that previously suggested that something might be wrong between the batter and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Dismissing such rumours around the relationship between Virat and the board, Pratyush Raj states that there was a clean conversation between the batter and the BCCI. Also, Shubman Gill has provided full backing to Virat Kohli over his 2027 World Cup spot.

In support of the claims, the journalist mentioned a selfie of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli for the cricket awards, where both of the cricketers looked on good terms. Further says that Virat Kohli is certain for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
“And even though they (Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli) are playing together, he has always kind of looked up to him. There is a famous selfie at the Cricket Awards, where he has taken a selfie with Virat. And there is no point,” the journalist mentioned during the online discussion.
“We know that they had a very clear conversation when Shubman became the captain for the first time in Australia only. If you remember, in the BCCI photo, they were sitting together. And the conversation was pretty clear that Virat Kohli is certain for 2027,” he added.
