Team India Test captain Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books with a stunning century in the first innings of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Gill joined an exclusive club of Indian captains, comprising Virat Kohli, to score 150 or more runs in a SENA country.
India finished Day 1 of the second Test at a total of 310/5 with an unbeaten 99-run partnership between Shubman Gill and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Gill scored an unbeaten 114 runs, while Jadeja supported him with 41.*
Resuming on Day 2, the overnight pair negotiated most of the first session without losing a wicket. Jadeja completed his half-century, while Gill reached the 150-run mark in the first innings on Thursday, July 3. Josh Tongue removed Jadeja, who scored 89 runs off 137 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
