India National Cricket Team T20I vice-captain, Shubman Gill, flopped on his comeback to international cricket as he was dismissed for a low score by the Proteas right-arm pacer Lungi Ngidi.

Team India and Team South Africa are clashing with each other in the T20I series opener at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday, December 9.

Shubman Gill was dismissed on the third ball of the match

Gill suffered a neck injury at the start of the South Africa tour of India 2025. He injured his neck during the first Test of the series in Kolkata and missed out on the subsequent red-ball match in Guwahati.

Then, the Indian ODI captain was ruled out of all three 50-over matches against the South Africa National Cricket Team as he continued his rehabilitation program at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Just recently, he received a clearance from the BCCI doctors, and he made his comeback to competitive cricket in the first T20I match of the series against the Proteas.

Gill headed into the game under pressure to deliver, with several players waiting in the wings, and he failed miserably with the bat.

The right-handed batsman smashed a cracking four in the first over, but he fell to Lungi Ngidi on the third ball of the same over.

Ngidi bowled a length delivery on the middle and leg to Gill, who went down the track to smash the ball over mid-off, but he didn't make a good connection and was caught by Marco Jansen.

He only managed to score 4 runs off 2 balls before taking a long walk back to the dugout and facing brutal online trolling for yet another failure in T20I cricket.

Here's How Fans Reacted To Shubman Gill's Flop Show:

Shubman Gill asked to play like Virat Kohli in T20I cricket

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, the former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan suggested Shubman Gill to play like Virat Kohli in T20I cricket and remain in a good mental state.

"I want to see Shubman Gill's mental state in T20 cricket. It is important that Gill should not bat like how Abhishek Sharma and the other explosive batters are batting. He should bat according to the team situation and demand, because he is that kind of player. From all the years I have watched Virat Kohli play T20 cricket, Gill can also base his game like that and move forward," Irfan Pathan said.

"See, there will be some big matches where Abhishek Sharma will try to go big and will be out early. So, there you need stability, and Shubman Gill can provide that. But, it is important that Shubman Gill is not confused. If he is confused, then it will be a big problem for him. He is not Abhishek Sharma, he is not Suryakumar Yadav, he is not a 360-degree player, he is not MS Dhoni. He is not the type of player who can hit big sixes from the get-go," he added.
