Team India stand-in captain Shubman Gill humorously forgot the name of players who was benched during the toss for the fifth and final T20I match against Zimbabwe. Both Shubman Gill and the broadcaster had a laugh about it.

Shubman Gill was named captain of the Indian team for the ongoing Zimbabwe series in the absence of senior players who were rested after the T20 World Cup 2024 winning campaign. The Men in Blue started the series with a shocking loss as they failed to chase down the 116-run target during the first match.

The Shubman Gill-led team bounced back with three consecutive wins in the series. They clinched the series victory by a margin of 3-1 with one match remaining. The visiting team chased down the 153-run target with 10 wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill helped the team reach the target in just 15.2 overs.

The Boys Were Hungry After the First Loss - Shubman Gill

During the toss for the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill forgot which players had been rested to include Riyan Parag and Mukesh Kumar. He expressed satisfaction with the team's performance and resilience after an initial loss, noting that both spinners and fast bowlers had performed well. Notably, the players who were removed from playing XI were Ruturaj Gaikwad and Khaleel Ahmed.

"Yes, anyways we were looking to bat first on this wicket. Our spinners have bowled really well and so have our fast bowlers in the powerplay in this series. I think how much the players were hungry. It's not easy to play back-to-back games in T20Is. But the boys were hungry and to bounce back after the first loss was good. We have got a couple of changes. Mukesh Kumar and Riyan Parag come in," Gill said.
