Shubman Gill gets T20I leadership for Asia Cup 2025, Rishabh Pant vs Sanju Samson fight ends

Massive updates have dropped ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Shubman Gill has assumed a new role in the T20I side ahead of the Asia Cup, while Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the continental championship.
India has got their final nod from the Indian government as well as the BCCI, and hence the preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 are in full swing. India has been placed in the same group alongside arch-rivals Pakistan and hosts UAE and Oman.
The major doubts are posed over the squad selection for the big upcoming event, as several crucial players like Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant have not been cited as completely fit to be part of the upcoming multi-team event.
Suryakumar Yadav to remain captain; Shubman Gill gets vice-captaincy ahead of Asia Cup
As per journalist Vaibhav Bhola, Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is to continue in the captaincy role for the Asia Cup 2025. Doubts were raised about the availability of the Mumbai Indians batter after Sports Hernia surgery in Munich.
However, the batter had dropped an Instagram story of him now being 100% fit to be back as he rehabilitates at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence. India's Test skipper Shubman Gill and Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya were considered in the race for India's T20I captaincy in SKY's absence.

Rishabh Pant ruled out of Asia Cup 2025 with injury
Star gloveman Rishabh Pant had suffered an intense blow to his right foot in the India vs England fourth Test at Old Trafford. He was immediately taken off the field and was reported to have fractured his foot. He also missed India's final Test against England.
Pant has been confirmed to miss the Asia Cup 2025, as he is supposed to be off the field for about 2 months. Hence, this widens the gates for Sanju Samson, the wicket-keeper who has been regular in the Indian side as their new recognised opener since the T20 World Cup concluded with Rohit Sharma's retirement.
Sai Sudharsan has to wait for his T20I debut
Left-handed batsman Sai Sudharsan had a promising season with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 season, as a result of which he was considered an ideal candidate to be inducted into the Indian T20 setup, which already consists of dynamic left-handers like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma.
As per the latest reports, Shubman Gill's IPL teammate has to wait longer for his debut T20I cap, especially after the batter failed to impress with his performance in the Test series against England.
