Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill has resumed training in the nets after being snubbed from the Duleep Trophy opening game for North Zone, as he was reported to be unwell due to a viral flu. He was summoned by the BCCI for a fitness check as well, since the Asia Cup preparations will begin soon.
Many believed that once Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepped down from being the backbone of the Indian batting attack, it would undergo a turbulent phase; however, one of the major reasons they have kept the Indian batting order firm is none other than the skipper, Shubman Gill.
Shubman's previous most dominating performance came in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he made his captaincy debut for India in Test cricket on English soil. He scored 754 runs with a stunning average of 75.4 in the series.
Shubman Gill returns to the Nets amid the BCCI summons
After the tiring series in England, when Indian players returned to the country, they all went into a hibernating phase as they rested. Shubman also went back to Chandigarh, his hometown.
However, the batter was picked in the North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy and was also named as the skipper of the side. On the other hand, he was also selected into the Indian Asia Cup squad for 2025.
Gill was reported to be suffering from some type of viral fever, which had terrified the ICT Fans as some felt that the unwell vice-captain of the T20I squad could have missed the continental championship. However, as seen through viral videos on social media, Gill is back in the nets and is preparing for the upcoming events.

Shubman Gill missed the Duleep Trophy game for the North Zone due to illness
Shubman Gill was supposed to lead the North Zone side in the Duleep Trophy; however, his Viral Flu had kept him out of participation, as Ankit Kumar, the Haryana-based deputy, announced for Gill, is currently leading them against the East Zone.
After having missed the Duleep Trophy round, it was reported that all of Gill's medical blood test reports are now fine, and hence he has been called to the Centre of Excellence for a final fitness check before he sets out along with the Indian Asia Cup squad.
Shubman will next lead India in the home Test series against West Indies
Gill is now seen practicing in a local facility and is soon expected to move to the BCCI Centre of Excellence, where he would have to take up a routine fitness test ahead of the multi-team tournament.
Though Shubman Gill will be playing for India in the upcoming Asia Cup, he will resume captaining India from the Test series to be held against the West Indies from the 2nd of October.
The Asia Cup, however, begins on the 9th of September, while India marks the beginning of the tournament on the 10th of September and will feature alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman in the same group.
