Parthiv Patel, the Gujarat Titans assistant coach, revealed that Shubman Gill was once again ruled out due to a neck sprain, a freak injury that has pushed Gill to miss several tournaments or vital matches. The coach has updated, saying that he should be fine, as it doesn't look that serious.

The Gujarat Titans highly depend on their skipper, Shubman Gill, to strengthen their batting order. He led the Titans to the Eliminator's last season before a defeat to the Mumbai Indians. Gill had finished with 650 runs in the last season.

Gujarat Titans started the IPL 2026 season with a loss against the Punjab Kings, where the Kings managed a solid batting performance. In the next game against the Royals, they faced a very close defeat. Titans have started their campaign with two back-to-back losses.

Parthiv Patel updates on the Gujarat Titans skipper

Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans skipper, did not feature in their last game against the Rajasthan Royals. Parthiv Patel, the assistant coach, has now issued a statement claiming that the skipper was injured, as a result of which he missed the game.

However, he has also confirmed that it is nothing serious, and hence, he might be available for them. He also claimed that he should be available for the next game against the Delhi Capitals in the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

"Obviously, he had a neck sprain before, and he had a spasm a couple of days back. Hoping he's fit for the coming game. It doesn't look like that serious,” said Parthiv Patel while speaking to the host broadcaster.

“The injury management is not my forte. But I can definitely tell you that he should be fine,” he added.

Increasing workload affecting Shubman Gill's fitness?

Shubman Gill has already had an increasing workload since the England series, when he captained India for the first time. Since then, he has taken over the duties as the skipper of both the Test and ODI sides.

Hence, he has been part of every squad for India. Shubman Gill's workload has been increasing in recent times. Previously, he missed the South Africa Test and ODI series due to the same kind of freak injury to his neck.

Coming back to the IPL 2026 fixture against the Punjab Kings, the IPL kingpin played a promising knock of 39 runs in the opening game. In the second game, he was eventually replaced by Kumar Kushagra in the playing XI.

The Gujarat Titans lost a close game to the Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first. The Royals posted a magnificent score of 210 in their 20 overs, as Dhurv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored magnificent half-centuries as they played handy knocks of 75 and 55.

Sai Sudharsan instead spearheaded the GT batting in Gill's absence. He scored a quickfire half-century; however, the team's struggles began after the left-hander was dismissed for 73. Ravi Bishnoi's four-wicket spell in the middle overs was instrumental for the comeback of the Royals.

They fought back with a 43-run stand for the eighth wicket between Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan. While only 11 were needed in the last match, a stunning over from Tushar Deshpande could leak just 5 runs, ending the game in a 6-run victory for the Royals.
